SIX YEAR OLD SURFING STAR

The world's best surfers are battling it out on the Gold Coast this week as the World Surf League kicks off and one young surfer in particular has stolen the show.

Her name is Leihani Kaloha Zoric and she's only six and a half and she's a Yued girl.

And she's also a pretty great surfer!

She's been surfing since the day she was born - seriously!

Leihani Zoric says: "I learnt how to surf because you've got to practice heaps every day and you've got to practice in all kinds of conditions."

This week she put her skills to the test at the Juraki Team Challenge surfing event on the Gold Coast.

Eight junior surfers joined up with a professional mentor for the comp and Leihani and Rookie of the Year Macy Callaghan came third!

She says that her parents are super supportive of her career.

"My mum's really good, she's so good, and she's really helpful and my dad's good at surfing and doing airs and making them and he's nice as well," Leihani said.

So what's Leihani's plan for the future?

"I want to do surfing and I want to beat my brother, hopefully!" she said.
